Bus Driver

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Casual Bus Driver to join our team at Shannon Oaks in Oak Bay. In this role, you will provide safe, reliable transportation for our Independent Living residents, supporting their independence and connection to community life.

Shifts for this position typically fall between Monday and Saturday, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., based on operational needs.

About The Role 

Reporting to the Administrator, you will ensure residents are transported safely and comfortably to scheduled outings and appointments. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining the community bus while creating a welcoming and respectful experience for every passenger.

This is an *exempt casual position, not unionized. 

Key Responsibilities 

Resident Transportation & Safety

  • Provide safe and courteous transportation services for residents.
  • Follow designated schedules and routes while maintaining flexibility as needed.
  • Operate wheelchair ramps and lifts safely and confidently.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly.

Vehicle Maintenance & Documentation 

  • Maintain cleanliness of the bus (interior and exterior).
  • Complete required mileage logs and documentation accurately.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and driving regulations are followed.

Health & Safety Leadership 

  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and wellbeing. 
  • Integrate health and safety topics into all education planning and delivery. 
Resident Experience and Team Collaboration
  • Foster positive, respectful relationships with residents.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and protect resident dignity and privacy.
  • Model Baptist Housing’s values and servant leadership approach.
  • Contribute to a culture of health, safety, and teamwork.
 

Requirements 

  • Valid BC Class 4 Driver's License.
  • Clean Driver's Abstract (provided annually).
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Experience driving passengers, preferably seniors. 
  • Knowledge of safe driving regulations and defensive driving practices. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Calm, patient and compassionate approach to working with older adults. 
  • Understanding of aging, cognitive changes, and senior wellness is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits 

We offer a compensation of $25.76 per hour.
