Librarian & Research Assistant  for Volunteers

As the Librarian and Research Assistant for Volunteers at our Evergreen Campus of Care in White Rock, you will help assess and research the needs and interests of residents, the learning and training needs of volunteers who support residents, and assist in developing a small resource library with materials and tools that support meaningful engagement and learning between residents and volunteers.
 

About The Role 

Canada Summer Job Grant Opportunity 

This is an 8-week, 35 hour per week temporary position. 

In this role, you will conduct or assist with surveys, interviews, and observations to better understand the needs and interests of residents (at Long Term Care, Assisting Living and Independent Living communities), and the challenges volunteers face in serving residents.  You will gather data and feedback to help improve volunteer roles, training, and engagement programs. It is a key responsibility to identify best practices in volunteer engagement and senior living enrichment from reputable sources, to help build and maintain a volunteer resource library; digital and/or physical, focused on materials related to aging, dementia care, communication, companionship, and volunteer skills.  Working closely with the Manager of Volunteer Programs, the Volunteer Coordinators, and volunteers, you will organize and catalog materials (books, articles, guides, videos) for easy access and to align research and library efforts with community goals.  Finally, you will support the creation of educational and orientation materials for volunteers working with seniors.
 

Requirements 

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old at the beginning of employment. 
  • Completion or pursuit of a degree in library science, social work, gerontology, psychology or community engagement is required. 
  • Ideally, candidates should have 1-2 years of experience working with seniors. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and digital communication and data collection tools are necessary. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively engage with diverse community members and present information. 
  • A valid BC driver’s license is required. 
  • Consent for a Criminal Record Check for working with Vulnerable Adults is mandatory.

Compensation & Benefits
