As the Therapeutic Recreation Research Assistant at our Evergreen Campus of Care in White Rock, you will help research, evaluate and organize the therapeutic equipment and sensory tools used within a behavioural stabilization environment for older adults living with dementia. This position contributes to enhancing quality of life, promoting wellbeing, and supporting person-centered care for residents with cognitive impairment.

About The Role 

Canada Summer Job Grant Opportunity 

This is an 8-week, 35 hour per week temporary position. 

In this role, you will conduct research on therapeutic recreation and sensory-based equipment beneficial for individuals experiencing dementia or behavioural symptoms.  You will review evidence-based practices and summarize findings to inform equipment purchases and program development, while evaluating existing recreation and sensory tools to identify opportunities for improvement.  You will catalog therapeutic equipment for easy access by the team, and contribute to the development of user guides, instruction sheets and themed activity kits for dementia support. 

Requirements 

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old at the beginning of employment. 
  • Pursuit of a degree in health science, social work, gerontology, psychology, therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy or healthcare research is required. 
  • Ideally, candidates should have 1-2 years of experience working with seniors. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and digital communication and data collection tools are necessary. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively engage with diverse community members and present information. 
  • A valid BC driver’s license is required. 
  • Consent for a Criminal Record Check for working with Vulnerable Adults is mandatory.

Compensation & Benefits 

We offer an hourly wage of $18.25 to $19.25, and you will be welcomed into a warm and supportive work environment where you can thrive both personally and professionally.
